About Argenta

Argenta is a Belgian bank and insurer that has existed since 1956. The company is also active in the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

The bank and insurer not only offers mortgages, but also savings accounts. Argenta has more than 300,000 customers in the Netherlands.

What are the funding sources for Argenta?

Because Argenta is a banking and insurance company, the money comes from savers and insurance premiums.

The money that people put in their savings accounts and the premiums paid for non-life insurance are therefore lent out in the form of mortgages.

The bank mainly lends its own money.

Mortgage interest from Argenta

Argenta mainly offers low interest rates for mortgages with a fixed interest rate period of 10, 20 and 30 years.

The interest rates are especially low for mortgages with NHG.

Is Argenta reliable?

Argenta is based in Belgium and has been active in the Dutch mortgage market for many years.

The company has been around since 1956 and therefore has a long history. This contributes to the reliability of a company.

Argenta is a family business, the shares of which are still owned by the family. Family businesses focus on the long term, which can contribute to the stability and continuity of a company.

The fact that the bank has more than 300,000 Dutch customers also contributes to its reliability.

My experience with Argenta?

I have positive experiences with this lender. That’s because they have a clear acceptance policy.

It is very clear in advance whether I can go to this bank with a certain situation. I can submit requests that are not standard to Argenta. In many situations, the bank is prepared to help find solutions.

Extensive pros and cons

Below are the advantages and disadvantages of Argenta:

Pros

  • A free validity period of the mortgage offer of 12 months. You pay €500 cancellation costs if the validity period of the mortgage offer has been extended.
  • If the mortgage interest rate on the day the mortgage deed is executed is lower than the interest rate stated in the interest rate offer, the customer will receive the lower of these 2 interest rates.
  • Will the validity of the quotation be extended (after 4 months)? Argenta then checks on the day that the validity period is extended whether the interest rate is lower than the interest rate from the interest offer. The customer will receive the lowest of these 2 interest rates on that day and not on the day the mortgage deed is executed.
  • The loan may be transferred to the new house under the same conditions within 12 months after selling the house.
  • The desktop valuation, the cheaper alternative to an extensive valuation, can be used for a mortgage lower than 90% of the market value.

 

Cons

  • The costs of a bridging mortgage are €250
  • Energy-saving facilities can be financed up to a maximum of 100% of the market value of the home.
  • The risk surcharge in the interest is only automatically adjusted if additional repayments are made.
  • De hypotheek verhogen voor consumptieve uitgaven (aankoop auto, boot of verre reis) is niet toegestaan
